Tasting Notes
The nose is floral, with notes of jasmine, honeysuckle and orange blossom, while also having a subtle, savoury depth that speaks of pear skin, quince & beeswax. The palate offers more of the same, with a savoury, textured and powerful mouthfeel, that’s also lively and fresh, with a long and moreish finish.
Vintage Notes
2021 was a dream vintage for all of our varieties. A cool start with plenty of rain in the spring with flowering enjoying the best of the weather, thus ensuring ideal yields, much better than the tiny 2020 season.
Winemaking Notes
As is usual, the Marsanne ripened before the Roussanne and this year was picked eight days earlier. Each were handpicked, sorted, destemmed and crushed before pressing. Fermentation for both varieties was in stainless steel tanks, then transferred to old oak barrels post fermentation for aging. There is no new oak used as we believe the best result comes from allowing the fruit to sing on its own while having the benefit of old oak for development. There is no malolactic fermentation and the two varieties are kept separate until blending before bottling. The final blend was Marsanne 62% & Roussanne 38%.
