What started with an email out of the blue in 2023, led to a drive down memory lane for Guill.

In November 2023, we received an email...

'Hello to all at Yeringberg,
My son has recently acquired a car which was originally owned by George de Pury. It is a Delage sedan.'

From there, there was some to-ing and fro-ing and Guill recalling what he knew about the car. His father bought the car five years before Guill was born.

'The Delage was bought in 1928 from a motor show in Melbourne by my father, George de Pury. It was bought without a body. The body, 2 doors and 4 seats, was fitted by Armstrong Coach Works in Ballarat. It was owned and driven by my father George de Pury until he died in 1956. He used it mainly for going to Melbourne. It was serviced by Joubart Motors, which was in the Old Western markets on the corner of William and Collins streets.  I understand his estate sold it to an engineer at GM Dandenong. Unfortunately we have no photographs of it. It had twin ignition (both coil and magneto) and two spare wheels mounted at the rear.'

So in April 2024, it was with great joy that Guill had the chance to experience his father's car again. The new owner, Andrew, made the journey once more up our long driveway.

Guill immediately noted that it was a different colour these days but there was no mistaking the corresponding height of the car at the rear and the disturbed brickwork in our 1880's built stables. Guill remembered his uncle misjudging the distance and backing the Delarge into the wall. Luckily lightning didn't strike twice.
