If you have visited Yeringberg, you would know this building well. Completed in the mid-1880s, it was the epitome of form and function. Built by David Mitchell, Dame Nellie Melba's father, it was a design perfectly suited to winemaking of the time. A fully suspended walkway and workspace upstairs, meant no upright posts to negotiate on the winery floor. Clear glass windows on the south side, frosted glass on the north side, meant good light but reduced summer heat. There are many other clever innovations and stories to tell. None of it would have been easy and it's remarkable that Yeringberg wines were held in such high regard, being enjoyed and awarded not only here but in the UK, France and the U.S.A.
The Press Room is very dear to us, as well as many others (clearly evidenced by its Heritage listing) and, while it's a very expensive exercise, its restoration and survival is paramount in our thinking. If you are heading to our Annual Wine Collection Weekend October 18-19 2025 (save the date!), you will see how well it has come up.Â
